Tom Holland has said he is eager to see Miles Morales join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), revealing that he hopes to help guide the actor who eventually takes over the Spider-Man mantle.
Speaking to Hobby Consolas ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland discussed the future of the Spider-Man franchise and his desire to introduce the fan-favourite Marvel character to the MCU.
“I think at this point in time, we’re being really open-minded about what the future looks like. I know that I have aspirations to bring Miles Morales into the universe, however that works out. We’ve got a lot of work to do to bring that to life. But yeah, I feel really strongly about it,” Holland said.
Miles Morales has become one of Marvel’s most popular superheroes since his comic-book debut. The character’s popularity grew significantly following Sony’s successful Spider-Verse animated films, although he has yet to make his live-action debut.
Tom Holland Open to Passing Spider-Man Torch
Holland’s latest comments have reignited speculation that the actor could eventually step back from the role of Peter Parker.
In a 2021 interview with GQ, Holland famously remarked: “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”
Now aged 30, the actor has previously indicated that he would like to make space for a new generation of heroes within the Marvel universe.
Holland also said he hopes to support the next Spider-Man in the same way that Robert Downey Jr. helped him when he joined Marvel Studios.
“I feel incredibly grateful for the way I was introduced into this world and that I was shepherded by Robert Downey Jr. I would love to kind of return that favour to the next generation of people that get the luxury of making these movies,” he explained.
Miles Morales Could Arrive After Secret Wars
Holland’s remarks have fuelled fresh speculation that Peter Parker could eventually become a mentor to Miles Morales, mirroring storylines seen in Marvel Comics.
Many fans believe that Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to reshape the MCU, could provide an opportunity for Marvel Studios to introduce Miles Morales alongside other new heroes.
Despite ongoing speculation about his future, Holland remains at the centre of Marvel’s plans with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to be one of the year’s biggest box-office releases.
While it remains unclear how long Holland will continue playing Spider-Man, his latest comments suggest he is keen to ensure Miles Morales eventually becomes part of the MCU and carries the legacy of the iconic superhero forward.
