Flash floods and an overturned freight truck disrupt major mountain road links as authorities advise motorists to use alternative routes.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has issued an urgent travel advisory after severe weather and a traffic accident disrupted movement on two major northern highway routes.
Authorities have asked tourists and commuters to postpone unnecessary journeys and follow official instructions until road conditions improve.
According to the NHA spokesperson, the Babusar Highway has been completely closed to all types of traffic after high-intensity flash floods struck the Thak area.
The flooding has made the route unsafe for vehicles, forcing officials to suspend traffic at Zero Point. Travelers planning to visit northern destinations have been advised to avoid the Babusar Highway and instead use the Karakoram Highway as the designated alternative.
However, traffic challenges have also emerged on the Karakoram Highway. Movement on the route has been temporarily suspended near Shang Nullah, close to Gonar Farm, after a heavy freight truck overturned and blocked the roadway.
The accident has caused significant congestion, prompting authorities to halt additional vehicle entry at the Gonar Farm Check Post to prevent further traffic buildup.
The NHA, in coordination with the district administration and emergency rescue teams, has launched a large-scale operation to clear the obstruction.
Heavy machinery has been deployed to remove the overturned truck and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible. Officials said all available resources are being utilized to reopen the highway safely.
Authorities have urged motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management teams while restoration work continues.
Travelers have also been requested to monitor official travel updates before starting their journeys, particularly those heading toward northern tourist destinations during the ongoing monsoon season.
