Tragic Train Collision in Pakistan Leaves Many Dead and Injured

Islamabad, August 6, 2023 – A tragic accident occurred near Nawabshah in Sindh Province as a passenger train collided, resulting in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.

The state media reported that at least fifteen passengers lost their lives, and several others sustained severe injuries when eight bogies of the Hazara Express derailed near the Sarhari Railway Station, situated between Shahzadpur and Nawabshah, on Sunday.

Railways Divisional Superintendent Sukkur Mahmoodur Rahman confirmed that the train was en route from Karachi to Rawalpindi when at least eight of its bogies derailed, leading to the devastating incident.

The passenger train was carrying a substantial number of travelers at the time of the accident. Local residents and passengers quickly initiated rescue efforts, diligently working to extract trapped individuals from the wreckage of the derailed bogies, as reported by PTV news channel.

Emergency services declared a state of emergency in nearby hospitals, and the rescue operation is currently underway. The injured victims are being rushed to People’s Medical Hospital Nawabshah for urgent medical attention.

As of now, the cause of the derailment remains unknown, and officials have arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Railway Minister Saad Rafiq expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the Nawabshah train accident, stating that he is deeply disturbed by the news. He conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the crash.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has been informed about the incident and is actively seeking basic information about the tragedy.
