US retains position as Pakistan’s largest export market: SBP

United States accounts for 20% of exports, while China and the UK remain the second and third-largest destinations

KARACHI: The United States retained its position as Pakistan’s largest export market during fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26), accounting for 20% of the country’s total exports of goods and services, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The latest figures underscore the continued importance of the US market for Pakistani exporters, with shipments of textiles, apparel and other value-added products driving export earnings.

China and the UK remain key export destinations

According to the SBP, China ranked as Pakistan’s second-largest export destination, accounting for 9% of total exports during FY26.

The United Kingdom followed with a 7% share, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also accounted for 7% of Pakistan’s exports.

Among other major destinations, Germany and Spain each represented 5% of total exports. The Netherlands contributed another 5%, followed by Italy with 4%, while Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia each accounted for 2%.

Exports to all other countries collectively made up 33% of Pakistan’s total exports during the fiscal year.

Top markets account for nearly half of exports

The data showed that Pakistan’s top five export destinations—the United States, China, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany—collectively accounted for nearly half of the country’s total exports.

The concentration of export earnings in a limited number of markets highlights the importance of maintaining strong trade relationships with key partners while expanding access to new international markets.

Textiles continue to dominate exports

The United States has consistently remained Pakistan’s largest export market, supported mainly by exports of textiles, garments, home textiles, leather products, sports goods and surgical instruments.

China remains a major destination for agricultural products, textiles and minerals, while the United Kingdom continues to be an important market for Pakistan’s value-added textile exports.

Outlook

Analysts said broadening Pakistan’s export base and diversifying export destinations will be essential to achieving sustainable export growth and strengthening the country’s external sector.

They added that deeper trade engagement with existing partners, alongside efforts to access new markets, could help reduce dependence on a handful of destinations and improve long-term export resilience.
