USF Awards Rs6.78 Billion Contract to Ufone for Providing High-Speed Mobile Broadband

Islamabad, July 13, 2023 – The Universal Service Fund (USF) has awarded a contract worth approximately Rs6.78 billion to Ufone for providing High-Speed Mobile Broadband services in the Sibbi district of Balochistan province and Motorway M-8.

The contract signing ceremony was held in Islamabad on Thursday, with Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque and Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Agha Hassan Baloch in attendance.

The project in Sibbi will provide high-speed mobile broadband services to 47 mauzas in the district, while the project on Motorway M-8 will provide coverage to 478 km of road segments.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Amin Ul Haque said that the projects were a part of the government’s efforts to improve digital connectivity in Balochistan. He said that the projects would help to empower the people of Balochistan and provide them with access to essential services.

President and Group CEO of PTCL & Ufone 4G, Hatem Bamatraf said that the company was committed to expanding its network connectivity footprint in Sindh and Balochistan. He said that Ufone 4G understood the unique needs of these regions and was committed to bringing them into the digital era.

CEO of Agahi, Puruesh Chaudhary said that the Research Impact Assessment study had shown the positive impact of USF initiatives in rural communities across Pakistan. He said that the study provided valuable insights into the transformative power of bridging the digital divide.

The projects are expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
