Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel praises the Fast Forever screenplay, teases emotional return to the franchise’s roots ahead of its 2028 release.
Vin Diesel has heaped praise on the screenplay for Fast Forever, the upcoming 11th instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise, calling it the best script he has read in decades and hinting at an emotional return to the series’ origins.
The actor shared his reaction on Instagram alongside a trailer promoting the 25th anniversary re-release of The Fast and the Furious, which returns to cinemas on August 21.
Vin Diesel calls Fast Forever script emotional
Reflecting on the upcoming sequel, Diesel revealed he had recently finished reading the screenplay written by Michael Lesslie and was deeply moved by it.
“I just read the ‘Fast Forever’ script by [Michael Lesslie]. It is the best script I have read in decades,” Diesel wrote. “I am still crying…”
The actor’s emotional response has further heightened anticipation for the final chapter of the blockbuster action franchise.
Return to the franchise’s beginnings
Diesel also suggested that Fast Forever will pay tribute to the original 2001 film that launched the global franchise.
“You will thank God you got to see the First one in the theaters this summer,” he wrote, encouraging fans to revisit The Fast and the Furious during its theatrical re-release.
The original film starred Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, and Chad Lindberg, and went on to gross more than $207 million worldwide.
Fast X cliffhanger to continue
Fast Forever will continue the story following the dramatic cliffhanger ending of Fast X, which debuted in 2023 and earned approximately $704 million at the global box office.
The previous film’s post-credit scenes teased the returns of Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson, setting the stage for the next instalment.
Michael Lesslie pens screenplay
Director Louis Leterrier, who helmed Fast X, is returning to direct Fast Forever.
The screenplay is written by Michael Lesslie, who revised an earlier script by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean.
Lesslie is known for writing The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Assassin’s Creed, Macbeth, and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
Fast Forever release date
Fast Forever is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on March 17, 2028, marking what is expected to be the concluding chapter of the long-running Fast & Furious saga.
