Wesley Snipes Sets Records Returning as Blade in Marvel

Veteran Hollywood star Wesley Snipes has set two Guinness World Records with his return as “Blade” in the blockbuster film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring alongside Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.

This highly anticipated movie marks Snipes’ triumphant return to the role of the half-vampire “daywalker” nearly 26 years after his first portrayal in the 1998 film “Blade.”

According to Guinness World Records, Snipes’ return as Blade comes 25 years and 340 days after his debut as the character, breaking the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character. He surpasses Hugh Jackman, whose career as Wolverine spanned 24 years, beginning with his appearance in the 2000 film “X-Men.”

In addition to this achievement, Snipes has also set the record for the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films. He last played Blade 19 years and 231 days ago in “Blade: Trinity” (2004), surpassing Alfred Molina’s 17-year gap between his roles as Doctor Octopus in “Spider-Man 2” (2004) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).

“Deadpool & Wolverine” features Snipes’ Blade joining forces with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, creating a dynamic and action-packed trio. The film also includes cameos from Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Dafne Keen as X-23, and Channing Tatum as Gambit, adding to its star-studded lineup.

Released on July 26, “Deadpool & Wolverine” made history as Disney’s first R-rated Marvel film. It shattered box office records, becoming the biggest R-rated opening weekend ever with total earnings of $205 million. The movie also ranks as the eighth-best debut of all time and the largest opening of 2024, surpassing Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which had a $155 million debut.

The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, known for his irreverent humor, explicit jokes, and violent antics, while Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine, the sharp-clawed mutant beloved by fans. Snipes’ return as Blade adds a nostalgic and thrilling element to the film, celebrating his iconic role in the Marvel universe.

With its record-breaking achievements and star power, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has captivated audiences worldwide, solidifying Wesley Snipes’ legacy as Blade and marking a historic moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
