WhatsApp has officially announced a new privacy-focused feature called Incognito Chats with Meta AI, allowing users to have secure and private conversations with the company’s artificial intelligence chatbot.
According to Meta Platforms, these chats are designed to offer a “truly private” AI experience inside WhatsApp. The company claims that even Meta itself cannot access the content of conversations processed through the new feature.
The announcement marks another major step in Meta’s efforts to expand AI services while addressing growing concerns around user privacy and data protection.
Meta Claims Enhanced Privacy for AI Conversations
Meta stated that Incognito Chats are processed within a secure environment that prevents even the company from viewing messages exchanged between users and Meta AI.
Unlike standard chatbot interactions, the conversations are not saved permanently, and disappearing messages are enabled by default. This means chats automatically vanish after a set period, adding an additional layer of privacy for users.
The company emphasized that this approach differs from many competing AI chatbot services, where providers may still have access to user prompts and AI-generated responses.
Meta specifically noted that other “incognito-style” chatbot modes offered by rivals cannot fully guarantee privacy because their systems may still process and store conversation data.
Secure AI Experience Integrated Into WhatsApp
The new feature allows WhatsApp users to interact with Meta AI directly within the app while maintaining stronger privacy protections. Users can ask questions, receive recommendations, and generate responses without worrying about chat history being stored permanently.
Meta believes the feature will encourage more people to use AI tools for sensitive or personal discussions, particularly as privacy concerns surrounding AI platforms continue to increase globally.
The integration also reflects Meta’s broader strategy of embedding AI capabilities across its ecosystem of apps and services.
Side Chat Feature Coming Soon
Meta also revealed plans to launch another AI-powered privacy feature called “Side Chat protected by Private Processing” in the coming months.
According to the company, Side Chat will provide users with private AI assistance based on the context of ongoing conversations without interrupting the main chat thread.
The feature aims to deliver real-time help and suggestions while keeping discussions secure and confidential.
With Incognito Chats now rolling out, WhatsApp continues to position itself as a leading messaging platform focused on both artificial intelligence innovation and user privacy.
