Xiaomi’s new foldable will debut in China on September 7 with the Xring O3 chipset and dual displays
Xiaomi has officially revealed the design and launch date of its upcoming wide-screen foldable smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold.
The company confirmed that the device will launch in China on September 7, just two days before Apple is expected to unveil its own wide-screen foldable, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra.
Xiaomi had previously confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold would launch in September and feature the company’s powerful Xring O3 chipset.
Alongside confirming the launch date, Xiaomi provided the first official look at the foldable, showcasing it in a Nishino Red colour option.
Xiaomi 18 Fold design revealed
The official images show the Xiaomi 18 Fold with a triple rear camera setup. The cameras and LED flash are housed inside a horizontal, pill-shaped camera module positioned on the back of the device.
The foldable also features large rounded corners and slim display bezels, giving it a modern appearance.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the smartphone will feature a 5.38-inch cover display and a larger 7.58-inch internal foldable screen.
The company has also shared a video showing the device and offering a closer look at its internal components and hinge mechanism.
The design appears focused on providing a large display experience while maintaining a relatively compact form factor when the device is folded.
Xiaomi 18 Fold specifications
Recent reports have provided additional details about the upcoming foldable.
A Geekbench listing suggests that the Xiaomi 18 Fold could be available with up to 16GB of RAM. The device is also expected to run Android 17 out of the box.
The Xring O3 chipset is expected to be one of the phone’s key highlights, potentially making the Xiaomi 18 Fold one of the company’s most powerful foldable devices.
However, Xiaomi has yet to reveal complete specifications, including the battery capacity, charging capabilities, camera details and pricing.
With its September 7 launch, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will arrive shortly before Apple’s expected foldable announcement, setting up an interesting comparison between the two devices.
More details are expected to be announced when Xiaomi officially launches the smartphone in China.
