Xiaomi’s latest trademark filing points to a potential luxury sedan with an extended wheelbase, advanced steering technology and enhanced rear-seat comfort.
Xiaomi could be expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a new flagship sedan, as its SU9 LUX trademark application has generated speculation about an upcoming model. Previous spy photographs suggest the vehicle could feature a longer body, an extended wheelbase and a design focused on premium passenger comfort.
Trademark records indicate that Xiaomi filed the application for “XIAOMI SU9 LUX” on February 13, 2026, under Class 12, which covers automobiles. The application was published for preliminary approval on June 6, followed by an opposition period from June 7 to September 6.
However, the trademark registration does not confirm that Xiaomi intends to introduce a production vehicle under this name. The company has also filed for the SU7 LUX trademark, suggesting it may be securing potential names for future use.
Long Wheelbase Could Define Xiaomi’s New Flagship
Reports based on spy shots suggest that the SU9 LUX could measure more than 5.2 metres in length, with a wheelbase of approximately 3.1 metres. These dimensions would place it in the large luxury sedan category, offering additional legroom and improved comfort for rear-seat passengers.
The reported features include rear-wheel steering, redesigned side-camera housings and additional radar sensors mounted along the sides. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed these specifications, the vehicle’s final name or its production plans.
Extended-wheelbase sedans remain popular among business customers in China. Established automakers cater to this market with models such as the Audi A6L, Mercedes-Benz E-Class L and BMW 5 Series Li.
The use of the number nine could also indicate a flagship positioning, as several Chinese manufacturers employ similar naming conventions for their premium vehicles.
Xiaomi Continues Expanding Its EV Portfolio
Xiaomi entered the automotive market with the SU7 sedan in March 2024, followed by the SU7 Ultra in February 2025. The company subsequently introduced its YU7 electric SUV in June 2025 and launched a new-generation SU7 in March 2026.
In September 2026, Xiaomi delivered 40,015 vehicles, representing a 32.7% increase from August but a 4.6% decline compared with the same month last year, according to CPCA data.
During the first nine months of 2026, the company sold 286,490 vehicles in China, marking a 7.4% year-on-year increase.
Although the SU9 LUX remains unconfirmed, its trademark and reported design details suggest Xiaomi may be exploring another premium segment as it expands its automotive business.
