Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Set for May 22 Launch

Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Set for May 22 Launch

Xiaomi, the renowned tech brand, is all set to unveil its highly anticipated YU7 electric SUV at its 15th anniversary celebration on May 22, 2025.

The company officially announced the launch via social media, and pre-launch consultation bookings for the YU7 are now live on the Xiaomi app, signaling that the EV’s market debut is just around the corner.

During a recent live broadcast, Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi, confirmed that the Xiaomi YU7 will be the star of the anniversary event.

He also revealed that the SUV will be offered in two drivetrain variants: a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) version and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration, catering to different driving preferences and performance needs.

Design and Dimensions

The YU7 SUV has received approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), with official images highlighting its modern and aerodynamic design.

It features a closed front grille and a headlight design inspired by Xiaomi’s SU7 electric sedan. However, the rear of the YU7 adopts a distinct design language with C-shaped LED taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler for improved aerodynamics.

The SUV measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, boasting a generous 3,000 mm wheelbase that translates into ample cabin space.

It accommodates five passengers and offers wheel choices ranging from 19 to 21 inches. The YU7 is expected to carry over the SU7’s triple-layer silver-coated panoramic sunroof, which blocks 99.9% of UV rays and offers impressive heat insulation.

Interior and Features

Spy shots reveal a minimalist yet high-tech interior. A floating central touchscreen takes center stage, supported by a panoramic head-up display (PHUD) that projects vital driving information onto the windshield. Unlike the SU7, the YU7 skips the flip-up instrument panel, integrating key alerts into the main display.

The interior also features a three-spoke steering wheel with a center marker, shift-by-wire controls, dual wireless charging pads, and a split-opening armrest. Rear passengers enjoy bucket-style seating, a fold-down center armrest, and optional rear-seat entertainment screens.

Powertrain and Performance

The Xiaomi YU7 will be available in three powertrain variants:

Single-Motor RWD: 235 kW (315 hp) with a 96.3 kWh battery, offering up to 835 km (519 miles) range.

Dual-Motor AWD (Standard): 130 kW front + 235 kW rear with a 101.7 kWh battery, providing 670–760 km (416–472 miles) range.

Dual-Motor AWD (High Performance): 220 kW front + 288 kW rear, totaling 508 kW (691 hp) with a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph).

Xiaomi’s 800V fast-charging technology enables an impressive 200 km range boost in just 5 minutes, addressing concerns around EV charging convenience.

Price and Market Competition

Expected to be priced between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (approx. $34,700–$48,600 USD), the Xiaomi YU7 will compete directly with models like the Tesla Model Y and Nio EC6 in China’s EV market.

With its long-range capability, premium features, and deep integration into Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem, the YU7 could disrupt the electric SUV segment—though recent controversies surrounding the brand might impact consumer sentiment.
