Zheng Qinwen’s Sensational Victory Over Jabeur at US Open

China’s rising star, Zheng Qinwen, continues to impress at the US Open, securing a spot in the quarterfinals and delivering a stunning defeat to Ons Jabeur. Meanwhile, Jessica Pegula faced a setback today, as surprising outcomes heightened the tournament’s excitement.

Jessica Pegula, the third seed and a strong title contender, endured a disappointing performance. Struggling with errors, she suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to fellow American Madison Keys. Despite her accomplishments on the WTA Tour, Pegula has yet to break the quarterfinals barrier in Grand Slam events.

A standout moment of the day was witnessed in the remarkable victory by Chinese sensation Zheng Qinwen over last year’s runner-up, Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.

Zheng’s exceptional skills were on full display as she secured a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set triumph. Notably, this marked her first win against a top-10 player and her inaugural entry into a Grand Slam quarterfinal.

In the upcoming quarterfinals, Zheng will face off against Belarusian second seed Aryna Sabalenka, who displayed her dominance with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over Russian 13th seed Daria Kasatkina.

Sabalenka is on the brink of claiming the world number one ranking at the tournament’s conclusion, following Iga Swiatek’s exit in the round of 16.

Ons Jabeur, who had faced heartbreak at Wimbledon earlier in the year, struggled to find her rhythm against Zheng. Despite her tenacity and saving four match points in the second set, she could not overcome Zheng’s resolute play. Jabeur’s battle with illness during her time in New York added to her challenges.

Madison Keys, fresh from her victory over Pegula, is set to take on Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. Vondrousova had to dig deep to defeat the spirited American Peyton Stearns in a thrilling three-set encounter.

During the match, Vondrousova appeared to contend with an arm injury, and the weight of the tennis balls affected her performance.
