Jessica Pegula, the third seed and a strong title contender, endured a disappointing performance. Struggling with errors, she suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to fellow American Madison Keys. Madison Keys, fresh from her victory over Pegula, is set to take on Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. Vondrousova had to dig deep to defeat the spirited American Peyton Stearns in a thrilling three-set encounter.
During the match, Vondrousova appeared to contend with an arm injury, and the weight of the tennis balls affected her performance.
