The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the playing XI for the opening T20I against Zimbabwe, scheduled to kick off on December 1, 2024 at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. The squad will be led by Salman Ali Agha, who expressed confidence in the team’s ability to maintain their winning streak.
The T20I series marks another chapter in the cricket rivalry between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, following the recently concluded ODI series. The matches will run from December 1 to December 5, with both teams determined to showcase their prowess in the shortest format of the game.
Pakistan’s playing XI includes a mix of youthful energy and seasoned talent. Batting responsibilities will rest on promising players like Saim Ayub, Omair Bin Yousuf, Usman Khan (wicket-keeper), Tayyab Tahir, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Jahandad Khan. On the bowling front, Pakistan has lined up Muhammad Abbas Afridi, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed, and Sufyan Moqim to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
Speaking ahead of the match, skipper Salman Ali Agha emphasized Pakistan’s focus on winning the series after their ODI success. “Our first priority is to win the T20I series. We have already secured the ODI series, and now we aim to carry forward the momentum,” he stated. The captain also highlighted the importance of giving maximum opportunities to young players, noting their strong performances in domestic cricket.
Agha underscored the team’s strategy to adopt an aggressive approach and integrate fresh faces in the T20I squad. “We want the youngsters to enjoy the game and play with confidence,” he added. He acknowledged Zimbabwe’s strengths, describing them as a formidable side on home turf but expressed optimism about Pakistan’s ability to control the game.
Pakistan enters the T20I series on a high after a 99-run victory in the ODI series decider. Kamran Ghulam’s maiden century, backed by a stellar bowling display, sealed the series 2-1 for the Men in Green. Fans eagerly await the clash as Pakistan aims to extend its dominance against Zimbabwe in this exciting series.
