2025 MG 5 Now Offered Exclusively in Essence Trim

MG GT

MG Australia has unveiled the updated 2025 MG 5 sedan, now offered exclusively in the premium Essence variant. This strategic streamlining of the lineup eliminates the previous entry-level Vibe trim and repositions the MG 5 within Australia’s competitive small sedan market with a sharper focus on safety and quality.

The 2025 MG 5 Essence is priced at $32,990 drive-away, marking a significant increase from the outgoing Vibe ($24,888) and a $4,000 jump over the previous Essence pricing.

The price hike reflects the addition of advanced driver-assistance technologies aimed at improving safety and securing a higher ANCAP safety rating.

Among the key new safety features are:

Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

Emergency Lane Keep Assist

Adaptive and Intelligent Cruise Control

Seatbelt pretensioners for all seats

A three-point centre rear seatbelt

Seatbelt reminders for all passengers

Whiplash-resistant front and rear seating

These enhancements have helped the MG 5 earn a three-star ANCAP safety rating, a substantial improvement from its previous zero-star result in 2023.

MG Australia’s safety upgrades underline the brand’s commitment to passenger protection and meeting evolving safety standards.

Under the hood, the 2025 MG 5 remains unchanged mechanically. It features a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 199kW and 250Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at a competitive 6.4L/100km combined.

Standard features on the 2025 MG 5 Essence include:

17-inch alloy wheels

Keyless entry with push-start ignition

Synthetic leather upholstery

A 360-degree surround camera

Six-speaker sound system

Power sunroof

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

Sport-tuned stability control with active corner braking

MG’s 10-year/250,000km new-car warranty continues to be a major selling point, offering long-term peace of mind for buyers.

With its enhanced safety suite and premium repositioning, the MG 5 Essence is now a strong contender in the segment, going head-to-head with the Hyundai i30, Kia K4, Mazda 3 sedan, and Toyota Corolla. The 2025 MG 5 aims to attract buyers looking for style, technology, and value in one dynamic package.
