2026 Toyota LandCruiser FJ Unveiled to Rival Suzuki Jimny

Toyota has officially revealed the 2026 LandCruiser FJ, a compact off-roader designed to rival the Suzuki Jimny and Renault Duster.

The pint-sized version of Toyota’s legendary FJ Cruiser will make its public debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show later this month, marking a new chapter in Toyota’s off-road legacy.

The new Toyota LandCruiser FJ draws inspiration from the iconic FJ Cruiser, sold between 2011 and 2016, and carries forward its rugged styling cues.

Initially previewed by the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV concept in 2022, the production-ready model features a boxy, muscular design with squared-off edges, prominent wheel arches, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel — all hinting at its adventure-ready nature.

Under the hood, the 2026 LandCruiser FJ comes equipped with a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 120kW of power and 246Nm of torque.

The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system for capable off-road performance. However, Toyota has yet to confirm hybrid or diesel options for the lineup.

The compact SUV will be built in Thailand, where the Toyota HiLux is also produced, with sales expected to start in 2026.

Despite its international debut, Toyota Australia has stated it currently has no plans to introduce the LandCruiser FJ locally, likely due to the absence of hybrid or diesel powertrains.

The new model sits on a shortened version of Toyota’s IMV ladder-frame platform, which also underpins the HiLux and Fortuner.

With a wheelbase of 2600mm and an overall length of 4575mm, the FJ’s proportions position it between the RAV4 and Corolla Cross in Toyota’s SUV lineup.

For serious off-roaders, the FJ offers modular bumpers that can be easily replaced after off-road damage, along with available accessories like roof racks and skid plates.

Toyota claims it delivers wheel articulation comparable to the LandCruiser 70 Series, underscoring its robust capabilities.

Inside, the LandCruiser FJ adopts a modern yet functional cabin, featuring a large infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and squared steering wheel reminiscent of the Prado’s design language.

The baby LandCruiser aims to capture enthusiasts seeking a rugged yet compact SUV experience, following in the footsteps of the beloved FJ Cruiser.

While global rollout plans are still unfolding, the 2026 LandCruiser FJ looks set to become Toyota’s newest off-road icon.
