The upcoming 2027 Kia Sportage has been spotted undergoing testing in Europe ahead of its anticipated global debut, offering an early look at the next generation of Kia’s popular mid-size SUV.
Although heavily camouflaged, the prototype reveals several notable design and technology updates that could make the new Sportage a stronger competitor in the increasingly competitive SUV segment.
The sixth-generation Sportage is expected to continue sharing its platform and powertrain technologies with the Hyundai Tucson, reflecting the close collaboration within the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG).
The Sportage remains Kia’s best-selling vehicle in many global markets, making this upcoming redesign one of the brand’s most important launches in recent years.
According to Car Expert, the latest spy images provide the first glimpse inside the next-generation Sportage, showing a significantly larger central touchscreen display integrated into the dashboard.
The SUV is expected to feature Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect infotainment platform, an Android Automotive-based operating system that will gradually be rolled out across millions of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles by 2030.
Despite the extensive camouflage, the prototype maintains proportions similar to the current model. However, several exterior changes are evident.
The new Sportage appears to feature a more sharply angled windscreen and a smoother, tapering roofline, giving it a sportier appearance. Unlike the upcoming Hyundai Tucson, which is expected to adopt a more upright and boxy shape, the Sportage seems focused on a sleek and aerodynamic profile.
