Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway are teaming up for Alone at Dawn, Ron Howard’s upcoming war drama produced for Amazon MGM Studios.

The film revisits the extraordinary real-life story of U.S. Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman, whose heroic final mission in Afghanistan earned him posthumous recognition as a Medal of Honor recipient.

Driver is set to portray Chapman, a soldier who, despite being gravely injured and abandoned during the mission, chose to continue fighting, ultimately saving the lives of his comrades under nearly impossible conditions. Alongside him, Hathaway plays an intelligence officer whose tireless campaign ensured Chapman’s bravery would not be forgotten, fighting to secure his Medal of Honor long after his death.

Adapted from the 2019 book Alone at Dawn by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz, the movie aims to stay rooted in authenticity, with Schilling himself contributing as a consultant. Screenwriters Erin Cressida Wilson and Amy Herzog were tasked with shaping the powerful screenplay, balancing Chapman’s battlefield courage with Hathaway’s character’s determined pursuit of justice.

Produced by Imagine Entertainment, Hideaway, and Thruline, the film joins Howard’s legacy of emotional, true-to-life dramas. Beyond Alone at Dawn, Hathaway has also been busy filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, while Driver prepares for Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother.

For audiences, Alone at Dawn promises not just an intense war narrative, but also a moving story of sacrifice, honor, and perseverance. Hathaway’s involvement ensures the film will balance both action and emotional depth.
