Their unbeaten run in the tournament, held in the USA and West Indies, has seen several of their stars excel with both bat and ball.
Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is the standout, rising to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I All-Rounder Rankings. At 39, Nabi’s impressive performance, including a two-wicket haul against New Zealand in Guyana, catapulted him two places to secure the No.1 spot.
This shake-up sees Australia’s Marcus Stoinis climbing to second place, while former top-ranked Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh drops to fifth.
Afghanistan’s success is not limited to Nabi. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has emerged as the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 156 runs from two innings. His stellar form has propelled him eight places up to 12th in the T20I batter rankings, achieving a new career-high rating.
The rankings also saw notable movements among other top players. India’s Suryakumar Yadav maintains a strong lead at the top, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam, England’s Jos Buttler, West Indies’ Brandon King, and Australia’s Travis Head make significant gains within the top 10.
In the bowler rankings, England spinner Adil Rashid remains at the top, closely followed by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi have made remarkable progress, moving up to third and joint fourth, respectively, after their excellent performances. South African pacer Anrich Nortje also climbs to joint fourth, thanks to his eight wickets from three matches.
Bangladesh players have also made notable advancements. Mustafizur Rahman rises 10 spots to 13th, Taskin Ahmed moves up eight places to 19th, and Rishad Hossain leaps 24 places to 30th, following impressive displays against Sri Lanka and South Africa.
