Prime Video’s acclaimed superhero satire series, The Boys, is set to wrap up after its upcoming fifth season.
Based on the bestselling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show follows a group of vigilantes determined to take down corrupt superheroes, known as “Supes,” who exploit their powers. Season 4 is slated to premiere on Prime Video on Thursday, June 13.
The official synopsis for Season 4 hints at high stakes: “The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office—and Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader.
The team is fed up with his lies—but with the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world.”
Returning cast members include Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, and Karen Fukuhara. Newcomers for Season 4 are Rosemarie DeWitt, Rob Benedict, Elliot Knight, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Cameron Crovetti, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Ahead of the Season 4 premiere, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that the series would conclude with its fifth season. Kripke revealed that ending with Season 5 was always his plan, although he had to keep it under wraps until final approval was granted. He expressed his excitement, stating, “Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”
Speculation about the series’ conclusion began when Amazon renewed The Boys for a fifth season in May, without initially disclosing it would be the final one. Kripke had previously mentioned wanting at least five seasons to fully tell the story. Despite recent spending cuts in the media industry, Kripke noted that The Boys’ budget has remained relatively intact due to its status as a flagship series for Prime Video.
The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 will premiere on June 13, 2024, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT on Prime Video, with new episodes released weekly until the finale on July 18, 2024.
