Airlink Delays Xiaomi EV Launch in Pakistan Amid Rising Demand

The much-awaited arrival of Xiaomi’s electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan has been postponed indefinitely, dealing a setback to local EV enthusiasts who were anticipating the brand’s debut in the market.

During a recent corporate briefing, Airlink Communication Limited (AIRLINK) — Xiaomi’s official partner for smartphones and future EV distribution in Pakistan — confirmed the delay.

The company explained that “unexpectedly high demand in China” has compelled Xiaomi to focus on producing left-hand drive vehicles for its domestic customers before catering to export markets like Pakistan.

Airlink’s management further clarified that the launch of Xiaomi EVs in Pakistan is not expected in the near future, as the brand continues to ramp up domestic production to meet overwhelming demand.

This development comes after months of growing anticipation among Pakistani consumers.

Back in September 2024, Xiaomi’s flagship electric sedan, the SU7, was spotted testing in Karachi — a clear sign that the company was preparing for a local launch.

Airlink later confirmed that these units were imported for testing and evaluation purposes.

However, recent events in China have complicated Xiaomi’s expansion plans.

The Xiaomi SU7 has faced several safety controversies, including a major recall of around 117,000 units due to issues with its driver-assistance software.

Additionally, the model has been linked to multiple fire-related incidents, raising public safety concerns.

In one recent case, a fatal high-speed crash in Chengdu resulted in the vehicle catching fire, marking the second major fire incident this year involving the SU7.

The earlier crash in March also led to fatalities, sparking intense debate on Chinese social media about the EV’s reliability and build quality.

Given these challenges, Xiaomi appears to be prioritizing product improvement and domestic stability before entering new markets.

While Airlink remains committed to bringing Xiaomi EVs to Pakistan, the company emphasized that no official launch timeline has been set for now.

For Pakistani EV fans eagerly awaiting the Xiaomi SU7’s arrival, this delay is undoubtedly disappointing.

However, industry experts suggest that once Xiaomi addresses its production and safety concerns, the brand could re-enter the Pakistan launch pipeline with a more stable, globally ready product lineup.

Until then, local consumers will have to wait for Airlink Communication’s next update regarding Xiaomi’s much-anticipated EV debut in Pakistan.
