Aisam, Aqeel Set to Dazzle in Davis Cup Showdown with Indonesia

The prestigious Aisam-ul-Haq Tennis Pavilion, nestled within the heart of Islamabad’s Pakistan Sports Complex, becomes the epicenter of sporting excitement.

Pakistan’s tennis maestros, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan, are set to ignite the court as they face off against Indonesia in the eagerly anticipated Davis Cup World Group II encounter on September 16.

With the sweltering humidity serving as the backdrop, Team Pakistan, under the leadership of Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan, exudes unwavering determination.

They are joined by the formidable talents of Muhammad Shoaib, Muhammad Abid, and the promising newcomer, Barkat Ullah. Guiding this formidable lineup is none other than former Davis Cup player Mushaf Zia, with Muhammad Shahid serving as the team’s dedicated physio.

Addressing the media in a pre-match press conference, Aisam-ul-Haq expressed his team’s commitment to meeting high expectations. While acknowledging the challenging weather conditions, he assured that they would spare no effort in pursuit of victory. “Despite the persistent humidity, our team has trained rigorously for this tie. We are determined to give it our all and secure a win.”

Aqeel Khan, the nation’s top player, emphasized the significance of this Davis Cup encounter in assessing their strengths and weaknesses ahead of the Asian Games. He emphasized, “Practice is crucial, but competing against formidable opponents provides invaluable insights.”

Following the Davis Cup, their journey will take them to China for the prestigious Asian Games, where Aqeel is confident that their rigorous preparation will lead to a commendable performance on the international stage.

Beyond the Davis Cup, Aisam and Aqeel will proudly represent Pakistan in tennis at the Asian Games, captivating Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 08.

The Indonesian Davis Cup team has arrived in Islamabad, bringing their own set of talents. David Agung Susanto, Ignatius Anthony Susanto, and Gunawan Trismuwantara comprise the Indonesian squad.

Wirjawan Sugiharta leads as the playing captain, with Suharyadi as the manager, Robby Sudrajat as the Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Suharto as the masseur.

To ensure fair play, ITF Referee Hany Hamied Ali ElKhafief from Egypt will oversee the tie. The chair umpire, Gianluca Moscarella from Italy, and the second chair umpire, Ivan Yovchev from Bulgaria, have also landed in Islamabad.
