The seven-time Grammy winner stunned podcast hosts Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin with her unexpected personal revelation.
Singer Alanis Morissette has surprised fans and podcast hosts by publicly revealing that she identifies as pansexual.
The 52-year-old singer made the unexpected confession during an appearance on the Handsome podcast on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, while discussing the heartbreak and relationships that inspired some of her biggest songs.
During the conversation, host Fortune Feimster joked: “I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it.”
She then asked whether those experiences had ever made Morissette consider becoming a lesbian.
“I’m pansexual, so yeah,” the singer replied.
Her revelation caught host Tig Notaro by surprise, prompting her to ask: “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?”
“I am,” Morissette confirmed.
When the hosts questioned why she had waited until the end of the interview to share the news, the seven-time Grammy winner jokingly responded: “I like to leave it for the epilogue.”
Pansexuality refers to romantic or sexual attraction to people regardless of their gender.
Alanis Morissette’s relationship history
The revelation comes more than 16 years after Morissette married musician Mario “Souleye” Treadway in May 2010.
The couple have three children: sons Ever, 15, and Winter, seven, and daughter Onyx, 10.
Before marrying Treadway, Morissette was engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds. However, the former couple announced their separation in 2007 after several years together.
Morissette rose to international fame with her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, which featured several emotionally charged songs inspired by personal experiences and became a defining release of her career.
