Amanda Seyfried has spoken candidly about living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and how the condition has influenced both her personal life and Hollywood career.
The 40-year-old actress revealed that her extreme OCD played a significant role in keeping her grounded as a young star, helping her avoid the party lifestyle often associated with early fame. According to Seyfried, the condition kept her away from nightclubs, drugs, and excessive drinking during her rise in the entertainment industry.
The Mean Girls star shared that she was diagnosed with OCD at the age of 19 while filming HBO’s Big Love. During that difficult period, her mother took time off work to stay with her as she underwent medical tests, including brain scans. Seyfried said she has taken prescribed medication every night since her diagnosis.
Reflecting on the impact of OCD, the actress noted that it helped her make thoughtful decisions and stay focused amid Hollywood pressures. She credited the condition with keeping her disciplined and emotionally grounded.
Speaking about motherhood, the Dropout star admitted that balancing work and family life is challenging. Seyfried shares two children with her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski — an eight-year-old daughter, Nina, and a five-year-old son.
Despite the demands of parenting and her career, Seyfried said she finds it all worthwhile. She acknowledged the stress of managing two children while having two film projects released at the same time but emphasized that she still loves acting and enjoys her work every day.
