Umar Amin’s exceptional century has firmly positioned Pakistan Shaheens on top against Bangladesh ‘A’ during the second day of their four-day encounter at the Islamabad Club.
Amin’s innings, marked by precision and power, became the cornerstone of Shaheens’ strong showing, as they built a significant first-innings lead.
Starting their day at two without loss, Pakistan Shaheens faced early trouble with the quick dismissals of openers Saim Ayub and Mohammad Huraira.
These early setbacks could have derailed the innings, but Umar Amin, with his wealth of experience, anchored the innings superbly.
Partnering with captain Saud Shakeel, Amin led a crucial 195-run partnership that not only stabilized the innings but also shifted momentum in Shaheens’ favor. Amin was in remarkable form, effortlessly converting his start into a magnificent century.
Amin’s innings was a masterclass in first-class cricket, blending patience with aggressive shot-making. He found the boundary with ease, hitting 23 fours and three towering sixes, before his resilient knock ended at 177.
His 32nd first-class century was not just a personal milestone but a critical contribution to Shaheens’ dominance. Shakeel, too, played his part with a composed 76, adding significant value to the team’s total.
However, after the departure of the two set batters, Shaheens’ momentum slightly waned, yet they still managed to finish the day in a commanding position.
By stumps, Pakistan Shaheens had reached 367 for four, establishing a considerable lead of 245 runs over Bangladesh ‘A’.
Saad Khan and Kamran Ghulam, unbeaten at the crease, will look to extend the lead further when play resumes on the third day.
Bangladesh ‘A’ struggled to contain the Shaheens’ batting, with left-arm spinner Hasan Murad emerging as their most successful bowler, picking up two wickets.
The visitors had earlier been bowled out for a paltry 122, with Pakistan Shaheens’ fast bowlers, Naseem Shah and Mir Hamza, each claiming three wickets to dismantle the opposition’s batting lineup.
As the match progresses, Pakistan Shaheens are in a prime position to push for a decisive victory, thanks to Umar Amin’s brilliant century and the team’s overall solid performance.
The upcoming days will be crucial as they aim to capitalize on their substantial lead and put further pressure on Bangladesh ‘A’.
