After an eight-year-long legal battle, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally resolved their contentious divorce settlement, marking the end of a protracted dispute over the division of assets.
While Jolie remains embroiled in another lawsuit with Pitt, the Maria actress decided to conclude this phase of the legal struggle, primarily for the well-being of their six children. The former couple shares three biological children—Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16—and three adopted children—Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19.
The acrimonious split began after a 2016 private jet incident in which Pitt allegedly behaved violently toward Jolie and their children while intoxicated. The incident caused a significant rift, with several children gradually distancing themselves from their father.
Jolie filed for divorce shortly after the incident, ending their two-year marriage. However, due to the complex nature of the proceedings, the couple was only declared legally single in 2019. During the years of legal wrangling, three of the children—Shiloh, Zahara, and Vivienne—publicly dropped Pitt’s surname, sparking accusations that Jolie was alienating the children from their father.
Despite the accusations, Jolie has consistently maintained a position of neutrality. A source close to the actress stated, “Angelina doesn’t speak ill of Brad publicly or privately. She has been trying hard to find light after a dark time.” The Maleficent star also extended gestures of peace, seemingly signaling her intention to move forward without animosity.
In a statement issued by Jolie’s legal team, her lawyer emphasized that resolving the divorce settlement was “just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago.” The lawyer further noted, “Angelina is exhausted but relieved that this chapter is finally over.”
For Jolie, the primary focus has always been the well-being of her children. By closing this chapter, she aims to shield them from the lingering shadows of a tumultuous period and focus on creating a more harmonious future for her family.
