Angelina Jolie is returning to the shadowy world of espionage, this time teaming up once again with an old creative partner.

The Oscar-winning actress is reuniting with director Doug Liman—her collaborator on the 2005 blockbuster Mr. & Mrs. Smith—for a new high-octane spy thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nearly two decades ago, Mr. & Mrs. Smith introduced audiences to the chemistry between Jolie and Brad Pitt, who played a seemingly ordinary married couple hiding their double lives as rival assassins. Off-screen, the film marked the beginning of the pair’s relationship, leading to marriage before their eventual split.

In this latest project, Jolie will portray a rogue master spy in a tense narrative likened to Training Day, but set within the dangerous, globe-trotting realm of intelligence and covert operations. The screenplay is by F. Scott Frazier, with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum of RK Films—who also worked with Jolie on the Maleficent series—producing.

At 50, Jolie shows no signs of slowing down. She will soon be seen in Alice Winocour’s French drama Couture, debuting next month at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, and is set to star alongside Halle Berry in the action feature Maude v Maude. Liman, meanwhile, is juggling multiple projects, including the supernatural thriller Deeper and an upcoming collaboration with Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie.
