Another strong monsoon system approaching Pakistan: PMD

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, August 25, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that another strong monsoon system is approaching the country, entering from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

This development is expected to trigger widespread rain and thunderstorms in multiple regions over the next two days.

According to the PMD, a seasonal low currently lies over northern Balochistan, while strong monsoon currents are penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a westerly wave is influencing weather conditions across upper areas, increasing the risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Weather Warnings

For tonight and August 26, the PMD warns of potential landslides and mudslides in hilly areas of Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Poonch, which may lead to temporary road closures. Torrential rain could also cause flash floods in local streams and nullahs.

Urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Narowal, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, and Lahore due to intense monsoon downpours. Heavy rain, lightning, and windstorms may damage weak structures, power lines, and billboards.

Forecast Summary

• Monday & Tuesday: Hot and humid weather will prevail across most areas, with widespread rain expected in Kashmir and northeast Punjab. Isolated showers are also forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan.

• Past 24 Hours: Light to moderate rain occurred in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD advises residents to stay alert as the strong monsoon system intensifies, bringing the risk of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and urban inundation in vulnerable areas.
