IT & Telecom

Apple has revealed that its App Store security systems prevented more than $2.2 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions during 2025. The company said the achievement reflects its growing investment in artificial intelligence and human review systems to protect users and developers from online threats.

According to Apple, the App Store now serves over 850 million weekly visitors across 175 storefronts worldwide. The company emphasized that maintaining trust and safety remains one of its top priorities as cybercriminals continue using more advanced fraud tactics.

Apple Blocks Fake Accounts and Fraudulent Developers

Apple disclosed that its Trust and Safety teams rejected over 1.1 billion fraudulent customer account creation attempts in 2025. The company also deactivated another 40.4 million customer accounts linked to fraud and abuse.

To prevent harmful apps from entering the platform, Apple terminated around 193,000 developer accounts over fraud concerns and rejected more than 138,000 developer enrollment applications.

The company also blocked 28,000 illegitimate apps distributed through pirate storefronts. These apps included malware, gambling apps, pirated software, and inappropriate content. Apple further revealed that it stopped 2.9 million attempts to install unauthorized apps outside the App Store.

App Review Process Rejects Millions of Submissions

Apple’s App Review team handled more than 9.1 million app submissions in 2025. The company rejected over 2 million submissions, including 1.2 million new apps and nearly 800,000 app updates, for violating App Store guidelines.

Apple stated that AI-powered tools now help reviewers detect hidden features, spam, cloned apps, and privacy violations faster. The company also removed nearly 59,000 apps involved in “bait-and-switch” tactics, where apps changed functionality after approval to commit fraud.

Additionally, Apple rejected over 443,000 app submissions for privacy violations and blocked 2.5 million TestFlight app submissions over security concerns.

Apple Fights Fake Reviews and Payment Fraud

Apple processed over 1.3 billion ratings and reviews in 2025. Using AI moderation systems, the company blocked nearly 195 million fake ratings and reviews from appearing on the App Store.

The company also stopped over 5.4 million stolen credit cards from being used for fraudulent purchases and banned almost 2 million accounts involved in suspicious payment activities.

Family Safety Features Continue to Expand

Apple highlighted its family-focused safety tools, including Screen Time and Ask to Buy features. The company rejected more than 5,000 apps from appearing in the Kids category for failing to meet strict child-safety standards.

Apple said it will continue investing in advanced security systems to keep the App Store safe for users and developers in the coming years.
