Apple iOS 27 Expected to Add New AI Photo Tools

IOS 17

Apple Inc. is expected to unveil iOS 27 on June 8 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event. The upcoming version of the operating system is already rumored to introduce several artificial intelligence enhancements, including a smarter version of Siri.

According to a new report by Bloomberg, Apple is also working on multiple AI-powered editing tools for the Photos app in iOS 27. The update could introduce a new Apple Intelligence Tools section within the app’s editing interface.

This section is expected to include several AI-driven features designed to simplify photo editing and improve image quality automatically.

New AI Tools for Photos App

Among the tools reportedly in development is Extend, a feature that may allow users to generate additional visual content beyond the original boundaries of an image. By expanding the edges of a photo, artificial intelligence could fill in the missing areas with newly generated details.

Another feature, Enhance, is expected to automatically improve images by adjusting color balance, lighting, and overall quality. The tool will likely work as a quick optimization option for users who want better results without manual adjustments.

Apple is also reportedly developing Reframe, a feature designed specifically for spatial photos captured for devices like the Apple Vision Pro. The tool could allow users to shift the perspective of a spatial image even after it has already been taken.

Meanwhile, the Clean Up feature—already available in the Photos app—will likely remain part of the editing toolkit. This AI-powered tool allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos.

Possible Development Challenges

Despite the promising features, the report notes that Apple has faced some difficulties during development. Internal testing reportedly showed that tools like Extend and Reframe have not always performed reliably.

Because of these issues, Apple could delay certain features or release them with limited functionality when iOS 27 is officially announced.

Apple is expected to reveal more details about iOS 27 and its AI capabilities during the WWDC event in June, where the company typically showcases upcoming software updates for its devices.
