National Accountability Bureau Recovers Nearly Rs3 Trillion in Q1 2026

Accountability

Islamabad, April 29, 2026 — The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reported a record recovery of approximately Rs2.96 trillion during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting a dramatic surge in performance driven by reforms and targeted enforcement strategies.

The recovery marks an unprecedented 33-fold increase compared to Rs91.01 billion recovered during the same period in 2025, highlighting enhanced institutional efficiency and operational capacity.

Massive State Land Recoveries

A significant portion of recoveries came from state land across multiple regions. NAB Lahore and Multan recovered 4,034 acres of land valued at Rs23.33 billion.

Meanwhile, NAB Karachi and Sukkur accounted for the largest share, recovering 54,387 acres worth Rs2.89 trillion. In Balochistan, NAB recovered 51,577 acres valued at Rs36.54 billion.

Additional Financial Recoveries

Apart from land recovery, NAB secured Rs11.08 billion through plea bargains, auctions, settlements, and court fines. Furthermore, 6,475 affectees in “cheating public at large” cases were compensated with disbursements totaling Rs1.78 billion.

These outcomes reflect NAB’s improved case management and enhanced inter-agency coordination.

Future Recovery Potential Identified

NAB, in collaboration with provincial governments, has also identified significant additional recovery potential. In Punjab, approximately 900,000 acres of misappropriated state land worth Rs4.37 trillion have been traced.

Similarly, in Sindh, around 452,968 acres of land valued at Rs10.96 trillion are under tracking for potential recovery.

To expedite the process, provincial authorities have established dedicated task forces under the supervision of senior Board of Revenue officials.

Strengthening Transparency and Governance

The bureau emphasized that its reform-driven approach is focused on transparency, accountability, and efficient asset recovery. The coordinated efforts between federal and provincial institutions are expected to further accelerate recovery proceedings.

Outlook

With ongoing initiatives and strengthened institutional alignment, the National Accountability Bureau aims to sustain its momentum in asset recovery, reinforce governance, and restore public trust by ensuring that misappropriated assets are returned to the national exchequer.
