Apple iPhone 17 Pro Review: Design, Camera Upgrades

Apple has officially unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 17 Pro, introducing major design and performance changes that set it apart from previous generations.

The new flagship smartphone arrives with a fresh aluminum build, enhanced durability features, and a powerful camera system that redefines mobile photography.

For years, Apple experimented with stainless steel and titanium on its premium models. The iPhone 17 Pro marks a return to aluminum, a material not used on high-end iPhones in several years. While the shift increases weight to 206g, aluminum’s superior heat conduction, paired with a new vapor chamber cooling system, ensures the A19 Pro chipset delivers stronger sustained performance.

On the design front, the iPhone 17 Pro introduces a striking dual-tone finish, with Ceramic Shield on both front and back. Apple claims the new Ceramic Shield is three times more scratch-resistant and four times more crack-resistant, now featuring an anti-reflective coating for improved visibility under sunlight. The display also gets brighter, peaking at 3,000 nits, making it one of the most sunlight-friendly panels on the market.

Photography sees some of the most notable upgrades. The telephoto lens now features a 48MP sensor with 4x/100mm zoom, expandable to 8x/200mm via in-sensor zoom. Combined with the main camera, users can seamlessly switch between 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x zoom levels. The selfie camera also receives an 18MP Center Stage sensor, which auto-adjusts to keep subjects in frame. Apple adds a new “Dual Capture” mode, recording with front and rear cameras simultaneously—a first for the iPhone lineup.

Battery life also improves, thanks to larger capacities—up to 670mAh more on eSIM-only models. Charging speeds get a boost with new AVS technology, though users must purchase an AVS-enabled charger separately, as Apple continues its trend of excluding adapters from the box.

Available in multiple storage options starting at $1,299, the iPhone 17 Pro combines Apple’s hallmark design refinements with meaningful hardware upgrades. With brighter displays, tougher materials, and advanced camera features, the 2025 flagship sets the stage for one of Apple’s strongest Pro models yet.
