Fresh leaks have revealed new details about Apple’s first foldable smartphone, widely expected to be called the iPhone Fold. The device is rumored to debut in September alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup during Apple’s annual launch event.
According to Chinese tipster Instant Digital, the foldable iPhone will arrive with three storage configurations and a premium price tag, positioning it among the most expensive smartphones Apple has ever released.
The tipster shared the potential pricing details for the Chinese market on Weibo. The base 256GB variant of the iPhone Fold is expected to be priced at CNY 15,999. Meanwhile, the 512GB model could cost around CNY 17,999, and the top-tier 1TB version may be priced at approximately CNY 19,999.
If converted directly using current exchange rates, the starting price of the foldable iPhone would be roughly $2,330 in the United States. However, Apple often applies its own pricing strategy across different regions rather than strictly following currency conversions.
Technology publication Macworld suggests that when comparing pricing differences between China and the US for current iPhone models, the base version of the iPhone Fold could actually start closer to $1,999 in the US market. Even at that level, the device would still cost significantly more than traditional iPhone models.
In addition to pricing details, new information about the device’s memory has also surfaced. A report from The Bell claims that Apple has finalized its RAM supplier for the foldable device.
According to the report, Apple will use 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM in the upcoming foldable iPhone. The memory modules will reportedly be supplied by Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers.
The inclusion of 12GB of RAM suggests Apple is preparing the device for demanding multitasking and advanced features, which are common expectations for foldable smartphones.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the device yet, rumors suggest the foldable iPhone will feature a large flexible display and premium design aimed at competing with foldable phones from other major brands.
More details about the iPhone Fold are expected to surface as the anticipated September launch event approaches.
