Apple’s long-rumored foldable smartphone may arrive later this year with a surprising new name. According to a fresh rumor from China, the company could launch its first foldable device under the iPhone Ultra branding instead of the widely speculated “iPhone Fold.”
For years, reports have suggested that Apple has been developing a foldable iPhone, though the company has yet to confirm any details publicly. Earlier leaks indicated the device might debut alongside the next-generation iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models this fall. However, the latest speculation suggests Apple may position the foldable device as an even more premium product with a distinct name.
If the rumor proves accurate, the iPhone Ultra will reportedly be part of a new lineup of high-end “Ultra” products. Apple is said to be planning three Ultra-branded devices for launch later this year: the iPhone Ultra, AirPods Ultra, and MacBook Ultra. Each product is expected to represent the most advanced and expensive offering in its respective category.
Pricing details from the rumor indicate the iPhone Ultra could start at more than CNY 10,000, which converts to approximately $1,446 at current exchange rates. The top-tier variant is expected to exceed CNY 20,000, or around $2,893, suggesting a significant price gap between entry-level and premium configurations.
While the pricing range appears unusually wide, it reflects Apple’s strategy of offering multiple storage or feature tiers across its flagship products. The foldable design itself could also contribute to the higher cost due to advanced display technology and complex hinge mechanisms.
The rumored AirPods Ultra are believed to be an upgraded version of the AirPods Pro, possibly featuring built-in cameras and advanced sensors. Meanwhile, the MacBook Ultra is expected to introduce a major design shift by incorporating an OLED touchscreen display, something Apple has long avoided in its MacBook lineup.
If these rumors are accurate, Apple’s Ultra branding would represent a new top-tier category within its product ecosystem. The iPhone Ultra would likely become the company’s most expensive smartphone, while the AirPods Ultra and MacBook Ultra would sit at the premium end of Apple’s audio and laptop portfolios.
Apple has not officially confirmed any of these products, so details may change before launch.
