Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new generation of premium MacBook laptops later this year, featuring a touchscreen OLED display and the upcoming M6-series chips.
The new models are expected to arrive in the final quarter of 2026 and could introduce one of the biggest design upgrades to Apple’s professional laptop lineup in recent years. Early reports suggested that the upcoming machines would replace the recently introduced MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
However, according to technology analyst Mark Gurman, the new device may actually be positioned above the existing MacBook Pro lineup.
Possible “MacBook Ultra” branding
Gurman reported that Apple may introduce the new device under a different name, potentially branding it as a MacBook Ultra. If this strategy is adopted, the laptop would sit above the current MacBook Pro models powered by Apple M5 Pro and Apple M5 Max.
The company has not yet confirmed whether the new laptop will carry the Ultra branding or continue under the MacBook Pro name. However, industry observers believe the device will target professional users who need the highest level of performance.
OLED touchscreen upgrade expected
One of the biggest upgrades expected in the upcoming device is the introduction of an OLED touchscreen display. This would mark a major shift for Apple, as the company has historically avoided adding touchscreen functionality to MacBooks.
The laptop is also expected to feature the next-generation Apple M6 chip series, which could bring significant improvements in processing power, graphics performance and energy efficiency.
Higher pricing likely
Due to the advanced display technology and new chipset, the upcoming MacBook models are expected to carry higher price tags. According to Gurman, prices for the OLED touchscreen MacBooks could rise by as much as 20 percent compared to current models.
At the same time, Apple is reportedly expanding its MacBook lineup to cover multiple price tiers. The company recently introduced the budget-friendly MacBook Neo with a starting price of $599, signaling a broader strategy to offer both affordable and ultra-premium laptops.
The new OLED touchscreen MacBooks are expected to debut in the fourth quarter of 2026, potentially becoming Apple’s most advanced laptop yet.
