Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign for the iPhone in 2027, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone’s release in June 2007.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant could unveil its first-ever foldable iPhone that year, alongside a revamped iPhone 19 Pro featuring a more prominent glass design.
While Apple has not officially confirmed any of these developments, Gurman’s report suggests that the iPhone 19 Pro will make “more extensive use of glass.”
Although details are limited, industry speculation hints at a futuristic design that may include a wrap-around display similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, a concept phone with a screen that extends around the sides and back.
The idea of a fully glass iPhone is not new. Former Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive reportedly envisioned an all-glass iPhone as early as 2017. His goal was to develop a sleek, thin device that appeared as a seamless sheet of glass—a concept that could now be closer to reality.
In addition to the 2027 redesign plans, Gurman also addressed rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, expected to launch earlier.
Contrary to some leaked renders, the iPhone 17 Pro series will not feature a two-tone back. Instead, Apple will maintain a uniform color finish across the entire rear surface, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.
However, Gurman did confirm that the camera island on the iPhone 17 Pro will span the full width of the device, indicating a design shift in camera layout.
With the foldable phone market gaining momentum, Apple’s anticipated entry in 2027 could reshape industry expectations. Competitors like Samsung and Huawei have already released multiple foldable models, and Apple’s move would mark a significant milestone in its design evolution.
If the rumors hold true, the 20th anniversary of the iPhone may bring not just nostalgia, but a glimpse into the future of smartphone innovation.
