Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 26.5, alongside new beta versions of iPadOS 26.5, macOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and watchOS 26.5. The latest beta update arrives just one week after the company rolled out the stable iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 updates to the public, indicating that Apple is quickly moving ahead with further improvements across its software ecosystem.
The iOS 26.5 beta 1 update mainly focuses on smaller feature additions, system improvements, and bug fixes. While the update does not introduce major changes, it still includes several notable additions that developers and testers will notice.
One of the most interesting changes is the introduction of a new “Suggested Places” section inside the Apple Maps app. According to the release notes, this feature will appear within the search interface and is expected to highlight recommended locations for users. The addition aligns with Apple’s recent efforts to integrate advertising opportunities within its services platform.
Another key feature included in iOS 26.5 beta is support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging. This technology improves messaging between different platforms by enabling features such as better media sharing, read receipts, and improved group chats between iPhone and Android devices.
Apple has also added Live Activities support for third-party accessories in the European Union. This feature could allow compatible accessories to display real-time updates directly on the iPhone’s lock screen or dynamic interface.
In addition, the update introduces improvements to accessory pairing, which may help users connect devices such as wireless earbuds, smart accessories, and other peripherals more smoothly.
The iOS 26.5 beta also expands accessibility and language support with the addition of a new Inuktitut keyboard layout. This keyboard will help speakers of the Indigenous language communicate more easily on Apple devices.
Furthermore, Apple has improved options for sharing message attachments between iPhone and Android users, making cross-platform communication more convenient. The beta update also contains references to a new “Year in Review for 2026” feature within the Apple Books app, although the feature is not yet fully available.
As with all developer beta releases, additional features and changes may appear in future beta updates before the final public release of iOS 26.5 later this year.
