Apple appears to be expanding its ambitions in artificial intelligence beyond iPhones and Macs, with fresh reports suggesting the tech giant is actively working on AI-powered home robots.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has multiple robotics projects in development, including a device that could become the company’s next breakthrough in consumer technology.
The most talked-about project is an iPad-like device mounted on a robotic arm. This AI assistant is designed to move naturally, turning toward the person speaking to it and even tracking users during a FaceTime call to keep them in frame. This creates an interactive experience that goes far beyond today’s stationary smart displays.
A key element of these AI robots will be an upgraded version of Siri. Unlike the current voice assistant, the new Siri will reportedly hold more natural conversations and even chime in during discussions. For example, if two people are planning dinner, Siri could suggest a nearby restaurant in real time. This personality-driven interaction is expected to make the robot feel more “alive” and relatable, with some speculation that Apple may use the iconic Finder smiley face from macOS as its on-screen identity.
Behind the scenes, Apple has reportedly assembled multiple teams working across hardware, AI, software, and user interface design, with Kevin Lynch—known for his role in the Apple Watch and automotive projects—leading the initiative. Beyond the robotic arm device, Apple is also said to be exploring a wheeled home robot similar to Amazon’s Astro, and even humanoid robot prototypes are being discussed.
Apple’s robotics research may also extend to industrial use. A large robotic arm, codenamed T1333, is reportedly under development for manufacturing applications, highlighting Apple’s interest in both consumer and enterprise robotics.
While the projects sound ambitious, analysts caution that not all of them may reach the market. Apple has previously shelved major projects, such as its highly anticipated Project Titan car. Still, the AI-powered robotic assistant appears to be the most viable and could become Apple’s next big hardware release in the AI era.
