Apple is preparing for a major leadership reshuffle as its Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, plans to retire later this year.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the company will expand the responsibilities of several senior executives to ensure a smooth transition and strengthen its strategic direction.

As part of the reorganization, Apple’s health and fitness divisions, previously managed by Sumbul Desai and Jay Blahnik, will now be merged under Desai’s leadership. Desai will report directly to Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, while Blahnik will report to Desai. Cue already oversees Apple’s TV+, iCloud, Maps, and other online platforms.

This change aligns with Apple’s plans to introduce a new subscription service called Health+, which will focus on AI-powered wellness tools. The upcoming platform is expected to help users improve their overall health through personalized recommendations on nutrition, sleep, and fitness.

Bloomberg reports that placing the health and fitness teams under Cue emphasizes Apple’s growing ambition to transform wellness technology into a key revenue stream. The move also highlights Apple’s continued push toward integrating health-focused features across its ecosystem of devices and services.

Beyond the health division, Williams also supervised Apple’s hardware and software design teams, managed by Molly Anderson and Alan Dye. Following the restructuring, both Anderson and Dye will now report directly to CEO Tim Cook, reinforcing Apple’s design leadership as a central pillar of its product strategy.

Additionally, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, will assume responsibility for watchOS, Apple Watch’s operating system. Meanwhile, John Ternus, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering — and a potential future successor to Tim Cook — will take sole control of Apple Watch hardware engineering, a role previously overseen by Williams.

With these strategic leadership changes and the upcoming launch of Health+, Apple is positioning itself for a new era focused on innovation, wellness, and digital services growth.
