Apple is gearing up for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled to kick off next week.
While the tech world awaits major announcements, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple will keep artificial intelligence (AI) updates relatively low-key this year.
WWDC 2025 marks one year since Apple introduced its Apple Intelligence (AI) initiative—an effort that has seen significant delays. At this year’s conference, Apple is expected to announce only limited AI advancements.
Among the key developments is the company’s plan to open up its on-device Apple Foundation Models to third-party developers. These models, capable of handling up to 3 billion parameters, will support features like text summarization and auto-correct, potentially allowing developers to integrate AI capabilities directly into their apps.
The spotlight, however, is expected to fall on iOS 26, which will debut with a redesigned interface inspired by visionOS, in what is being called one of the most significant visual overhauls in iOS history. Key features include a new battery management mode and an upgraded Translate app with deeper Siri and AirPods integration.
Although Apple is working on AI enhancements for Safari and the Photos app, the much-anticipated LLM-based Siri and enhanced Shortcuts app are reportedly not yet ready for public release.
In line with its tradition of naming macOS versions after California landmarks, macOS 26 is expected to be named Tahoe, after Lake Tahoe. The update will also showcase a visionOS-style design overhaul.
Another notable announcement could be Apple’s introduction of a centralized gaming app, which is rumored to replace the Apple Game Center. This new platform is designed to unify the gaming experience across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS. It will provide users with access to games, leaderboards, and social features for interacting with other players.
WWDC 2025 promises to deliver important, albeit measured, advancements as Apple refines its AI strategy and continues its push into next-gen software design and services.
