Apple has officially unveiled the next generation of its premium over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max 2. The new model brings significant upgrades in sound quality, active noise cancellation (ANC), and intelligent features, thanks to the powerful Apple H2 chip.
The company said the new headphones offer a more immersive and refined listening experience while maintaining the iconic design of the original AirPods Max.
More Powerful Noise Cancellation
One of the biggest improvements in AirPods Max 2 is its enhanced Active Noise Cancellation. According to Apple, the new model delivers up to 1.5 times more effective ANC compared to the previous generation. This allows users to block out more environmental noise, such as airplane engines, traffic, or crowded public spaces.
The H2 chip works with new computational audio algorithms and an advanced microphone array to deliver better sound processing. Transparency mode has also been improved, enabling users to hear surrounding sounds more naturally when needed.
Higher-Quality Audio Experience
AirPods Max 2 introduce a new high dynamic range amplifier designed to produce cleaner and more detailed audio. Apple says the headphones provide improved instrument separation, deeper bass, and more natural mids and highs.
The headphones also support 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio when connected using the included USB-C cable. This feature allows creators and professionals to experience higher fidelity audio while working in applications like Logic Pro.
Additionally, musicians can create and mix content using Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking, making AirPods Max 2 a versatile tool for both entertainment and professional workflows.
New Smart and Creative Features
The updated headphones also bring several intelligent capabilities powered by the H2 chip. These include Adaptive Audio, which automatically adjusts noise cancellation and transparency levels based on the surrounding environment.
Other features include Conversation Awareness, which lowers playback volume when users start speaking, and Voice Isolation, designed to improve call clarity by filtering background noise.
Another standout feature is Live Translation, powered by Apple Intelligence, allowing users to communicate across languages in real time.
AirPods Max 2 also introduce creative tools such as studio-quality audio recording for podcasters and content creators, along with a camera remote function that lets users take photos or start video recording on an iPhone or iPad by pressing the Digital Crown.
Price and Availability
Apple confirmed that AirPods Max 2 will be available for pre-order starting March 25, with shipments beginning early next month in more than 30 countries.
The headphones will be offered in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue, with a starting price of $549 in the United States.
