Apple has introduced the 2026 version of the iPad Air, marking the third update to the lineup in as many years. The new model focuses on performance gains, improved wireless connectivity, and expanded memory, positioning it as a compelling upgrade for users of older iPad Air devices and standard iPad models.
The biggest change is the move to the M4 chip, which delivers a notable performance boost. Compared to last year’s M3-powered version, the new tablet offers roughly 30% faster performance. However, users upgrading from the 2022 model powered by the M1 chip will see the most dramatic improvement, with Apple claiming performance increases of up to 2.3 times.
Memory has also been upgraded, with the 2026 iPad Air now featuring 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the previous generation. The new memory configuration offers bandwidth of 120GB/s, enabling smoother multitasking and better handling of demanding creative and productivity tasks. The M4 processor includes an 8-core CPU, a 9-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate on-device processing tasks such as video editing effects and advanced image handling.
Connectivity sees major enhancements as well. The tablet debuts Apple’s new N1 wireless chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread for smart home integration. Optional cellular models include the C1X modem, which delivers up to 50% faster wireless speeds while consuming less power compared to previous-generation modems.
Despite earlier speculation, the display remains a Liquid Retina LCD panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. The iPad Air (2026) is available in two sizes — 11 inches and 13 inches — and comes in Space Gray, Blue, Purple, and Starlight finishes.
Pricing starts at $600 for the 11-inch model and $800 for the 13-inch version, each with 128GB of storage. Higher storage configurations and optional 5G connectivity are available at additional cost. Pre-orders begin March 4, with official availability starting March 11.
The device supports optional accessories and includes a 20W charger and USB-C cable in the box.
