Apple has officially unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, marking a major shift in design and performance.
Moving away from titanium, Apple has returned to an aluminum unibody crafted from Series 7000 aluminum, available in deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver finishes. The new build not only improves durability but also enables bigger batteries across the lineup.
Both Pro models feature Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant and four times more crack-resistant. The displays are equally impressive, with the iPhone 17 Pro sporting a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR screen and the Pro Max a larger 6.9-inch panel. These adaptive 120Hz ProMotion displays can drop to 1Hz for Always-On mode and peak at 3,000 nits brightness, ensuring crisp visuals even in direct sunlight.
The camera system sees a massive upgrade, especially the telephoto lens. Apple has introduced a new 48MP Fusion sensor with a 100mm f/2.8 lens, delivering up to 8x digital zoom. The wide and ultrawide cameras also carry 48MP sensors, while the new 18MP front camera features Center Stage technology, allowing automatic adjustments for group selfies and video recording.
For video creators, the iPhone 17 Pro series supports ProRes RAW, Dolby Vision HDR, 4K at 120fps, and new tools like genlock for multi-camera setups. The devices run on the new A19 Pro chipset with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU with hardware ray tracing, and a 16-core Neural Engine for improved Apple Intelligence performance. A vapor chamber cooling system has also been added for better thermal management.
Connectivity upgrades include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and expanded eSIM support in regions like Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Apple promises the “longest battery life ever in an iPhone,” with up to 39 hours of video playback.
The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, while the Pro Max begins at $1,199, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. Pre-orders open September 12 in 63 markets, with shipments starting September 19, followed by more regions on September 26.
