Apple has officially unveiled its latest MacBook Pro and Vision Pro, both featuring the powerful new M5 chip, marking a major leap in artificial intelligence and performance.
The M5 chip is built using Apple’s third-generation 3nm technology and is designed to deliver “over 4x the peak GPU compute performance for AI” compared to the M4 chip.
The M5 chip includes a Neural Accelerator integrated into each GPU core, enabling lightning-fast processing for AI-driven tasks. Apple claims it features the world’s fastest performance core, with a 10-core CPU setup—four performance cores and six efficiency cores. This configuration delivers up to 15% faster multithreaded performance over the previous generation, making it ideal for creators, developers, and professionals who rely on intensive workloads.
The M5 also brings a 30% increase in memory bandwidth, offering speeds up to 153GB/s and support for up to 32GB of unified memory. Graphics performance has improved by 45% compared to the M4, thanks to a reengineered architecture that enhances both efficiency and power. Apple emphasizes that “every compute block of the chip is optimized for AI,” ensuring smooth performance in applications that depend on machine learning and local AI processing.
For instance, users can now run diffusion models in creative apps like Draw Things or even operate large language models locally using platforms such as webAI, without needing cloud-based computation.
Additionally, the new ray tracing engine delivers up to a 45% performance boost. Combined with the second-generation dynamic caching system, the M5 GPU offers smoother gameplay, realistic 3D visuals, and faster rendering for complex graphics tasks.
With the debut of the M5 chip, Apple is setting a new standard for AI and performance in consumer devices. The updated MacBook Pro and Vision Pro not only promise cutting-edge speed and efficiency but also cement Apple’s position at the forefront of the AI-powered computing revolution.
