Apple’s First Touchscreen MacBook Gains Credibility Amid Fresh Leak

IT & Telecom

Rumors that Apple is preparing to launch its first touchscreen MacBook have gained fresh momentum after a prominent Chinese leakster reiterated claims that the company is developing a touch-enabled laptop.

According to a new post from Instant Digital, an upcoming MacBook model will feature touchscreen functionality, marking a major departure from Apple’s long-standing resistance to touchscreens on Mac computers.

The leakster did not specify which MacBook model would receive the feature. However, previous reports have suggested that Apple is working on a high-end model, widely rumored to be called the MacBook Ultra.

macOS 27 Hints at Touchscreen Support

Speculation surrounding a touchscreen MacBook has intensified following the release of macOS 27 Golden Gate.

The latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system reportedly introduces touch input support for Sidecar, allowing users to interact with a connected iPad using touch gestures. Observers have also noted touch-friendly interface elements, including pull-to-refresh functionality in first-party applications such as Safari, Mail and News.

While Apple has not officially confirmed plans for a touchscreen MacBook, these software changes have fueled expectations that the company is laying the groundwork for touch-enabled Mac hardware.

OLED Display and Dynamic Island Rumored

Previous reports indicate that Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook could feature an OLED display, bringing improved contrast, deeper blacks and enhanced power efficiency compared with current MacBook screens.

The device is also rumored to include context-sensitive menus and controls that adapt to where users touch the display.

Some reports have further suggested that Apple may incorporate a Dynamic Island-style cutout into the laptop’s display, extending a feature currently found on newer iPhone models.

M6 Chip Could Power New MacBook

Industry speculation points to Apple’s next-generation M6 processor as the chip expected to power the touchscreen MacBook.

The combination of a new processor, OLED display technology and touchscreen capabilities could significantly increase the device’s price. Some analysts have estimated that Apple’s next flagship laptop could carry a starting price as much as 20% higher than current MacBook Pro models.

Apple has not commented on the reports, and the company traditionally keeps future product plans confidential until official launch events.

For now, the touchscreen MacBook remains a rumour, but the growing number of reports suggests Apple may be closer than ever to bringing touch functionality to its Mac lineup.
