Archewell, the charitable organization founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has faced another setback following the departure of a senior executive, amid ongoing scrutiny of the foundation’s operations and finances.
The charity recently underwent a rebrand, changing its name from Archewell Foundation to Archewell Philanthropies, a move that has already drawn public attention.
James Holt, a key staff member who held several senior leadership roles within Archewell, has announced his decision to step down after working closely with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since they stepped back from royal duties in 2020. According to Holt, the decision was made to allow him to spend more time with his family as they return to London.
In a statement, Holt described working with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “one of the great privileges” of his career. He reflected on his involvement in numerous initiatives, from early projects with Prince Harry aimed at improving mental health support for British military personnel, to more recent humanitarian efforts assisting injured children in Gaza.
Holt also praised Meghan Markle, saying he recognized a “kindred spirit” when they first met. He highlighted their joint work supporting families affected by online harm, calling it the most meaningful chapter of his professional life. He expressed confidence in the future leadership of Archewell Philanthropies, noting that he would hand over responsibilities with pride and optimism.
Responding to his departure, Prince Harry and Meghan issued a statement thanking Holt for nearly a decade of dedication. They confirmed that while he is leaving his executive role, Holt will continue to support certain overseas humanitarian missions through Archewell Philanthropies, ensuring continuity in the organization’s global charitable efforts.
