Ashlee Simpson is looking back on her early 2000s career and revealing the quirky rituals that helped her manage life as both an actress and a budding pop star.
Speaking on the August 21 episode of the Pod Meets World podcast, the 40-year-old singer opened up about her time filming the CW drama 7th Heaven while simultaneously working on her debut album, Autobiography.
“I filmed about 40 episodes of 7th Heaven while I was writing and recording my first album,” Simpson shared, noting that her castmates were like a second family. “Beverley Mitchell was always around, and Rachel Blanchard would run lines with me daily. They’d even stop by my trailer to listen to the latest song I’d written.”
At the same time, Ashlee was also starring in her own MTV reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show, which ran for two seasons and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at her chaotic yet exciting world. “It was like a lot of layers going on,” she reflected.
When filming for 7th Heaven wrapped, Ashlee treated herself to a major hair change. “Because of continuity, I had to keep my blonde look. But the day I finished, I went straight to CVS, bought a box of brown dye, and colored it myself,” she laughed. “I called everyone to say, ‘It’s official, I’m a brunette—and it’s from a box!’”
