Dubai, September 11, 2025 – Bangladesh announced their arrival in the Asia Cup 2025 with a commanding performance, defeating Hong Kong, China by seven wickets in the third match of the tournament.
The win not only gave Bangladesh a confident start to their campaign but also continued the trend of one-sided results in the early stages of the event.
Batting first, Hong Kong posted a total of 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings showed promise but lacked a decisive anchor. Nizakat Khan top-scored with 42, while Zeeshan Ali added 30. A late cameo from Yasim Murtaza, who scored 28 off 19 balls, provided some momentum, but his run-out in the 18th over proved costly. Bangladesh’s bowlers kept their opponents in check, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib producing a standout spell of 2/21, while Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain chipped in with two wickets each.
In reply, Bangladesh displayed composure and authority. Openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan began cautiously before falling in quick succession. At 47/2, the chase looked steady but not yet secure. That was when Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy took charge. The pair forged a match-winning stand, with Das playing a captain’s knock of 59 from 39 deliveries. His ability to rotate strike on a slower pitch and take calculated risks ensured that Bangladesh stayed ahead of the required rate. Hridoy’s composed innings in the 30s added crucial support, guiding the side home in 17.4 overs with 14 balls to spare.
Litton Das was named Player of the Match, praising his team’s collective effort. He highlighted the importance of starting the tournament strongly and credited Bangladesh’s bowling unit for building pressure early on. He also lauded Rishad Hossain for his consistency, noting how the youngster’s rise has added depth to their attack.
On the other side, Hong Kong’s captain Yasim Murtaza admitted his team had made progress compared to their opening game against Afghanistan but stressed the need for one batter to stay until the end. He emphasized reducing errors and tightening their bowling discipline in future matches.
This comprehensive win gives Bangladesh the momentum they were looking for as they eye a deep run in the Asia Cup 2025. The victory also sets the stage for an exciting Group A clash on Friday, when Pakistan faces Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
For Hong Kong, China, back-to-back losses highlight the uphill battle they face in the competition, though their improved effort in this game offers positives to build upon.
