Aurangzeb Condoles Demise of Prince Karim Aga Khan

Islamabad, February 5, 2025 – Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday conveyed his heartfelt condolences over the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV.

In an official statement, Aurangzeb described Prince Karim Aga Khan as an esteemed global leader who held a special place in the hearts of Pakistanis. Aurangzeb acknowledged the Aga Khan’s significant contributions to Pakistan’s foundation and its socio-economic development, emphasizing that his efforts had left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

Aurangzeb highlighted that Prince Karim Aga Khan was not only a revered spiritual figure but also a visionary leader committed to uplifting communities worldwide. He praised Aga Khan’s extraordinary dedication to humanitarian causes, noting that his immense contributions to education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation had positively impacted millions of lives.

The minister further stated that Prince Karim Aga Khan’s exceptional vision and steadfast commitment to the welfare of the Muslim Ummah and humanity would be remembered for generations. His legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering devotion to global welfare will continue to inspire people worldwide. Aurangzeb reiterated that his influence extended far beyond religious leadership, as he was a prominent advocate for sustainable development and interfaith harmony.

A day earlier, spiritual leader and renowned philanthropist Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the revered head of the global Ismaili Muslim community, passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88. His passing marks the conclusion of an era for the Ismaili community, which he guided with wisdom and compassion for nearly seven decades.

“With profound sadness, the Jamat is informed that our beloved 49th hereditary Imam, Mawlana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, passed peacefully to Almighty Allah’s grace on 4 February 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family,” stated an official communication from the Ismaili community.

As the 49th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, Aga Khan was not only a spiritual guide but also a pioneer in humanitarian efforts globally. According to community traditions, his successor was predetermined and named in his will. The statement confirmed that his will would be read in the presence of his family and senior community members.

Aurangzeb concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s deep respect for Prince Karim Aga Khan and his lifelong commitment to the betterment of humanity. He expressed solidarity with the Ismaili community during this moment of grief and prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace.
