Aurangzeb briefs US Treasury official on Pakistan’s economic reforms, $3 billion Eurobond issuance, financing diversification and plans to achieve a BB sovereign credit rating.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday met Erin Browne, Under Secretary for International Affairs at the US Department of the Treasury, to discuss Pakistan’s economic outlook, reform agenda and external financing strategy.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026, according to a news release.

Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s successful issuance of US$3 billion in Eurobonds in September and outlined plans to diversify financing sources through Sukuk, Panda bonds and other instruments.

He briefed the US official on progress under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, tax reforms, three consecutive years of primary budget surpluses and foreign exchange reserves of approximately US$21.6 billion.

The discussions also covered the regional conflict’s potential impact on energy supplies, inflation and food security. The minister outlined measures to maintain supplies and prepare for increased winter demand.

Aurangzeb stressed the importance of export-led growth, stronger information technology exports, improved competitiveness of Pakistani goods and sustainable debt management to support the country’s ambition of achieving a BB sovereign credit rating.

He also discussed the government’s privatisation programme, airport outsourcing initiatives, engagement with Boeing and potential financing from the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank).

The finance minister expressed deep appreciation for continued US support, underscoring the importance of bilateral engagement in advancing Pakistan’s economic stability and reform objectives.
