Finance minister seeks greater U.S. support for Pakistan’s export-led growth, investment and access to international capital markets
WASHINGTON, D.C.: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington, D.C., where the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, promoting greater U.S. investment and advancing strategic development projects.
During the meeting, Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s economic progress, stating that the country had moved from a phase of macroeconomic stabilisation towards sustainable, export-led growth. He also pointed to the challenges posed by regional geopolitical developments, noting that external uncertainties continue to affect Pakistan’s economic outlook.
The finance minister sought enhanced U.S. support for Pakistan’s economic reform agenda, with particular emphasis on improving access to international capital markets, strengthening foreign exchange reserves and achieving further improvements in the country’s sovereign credit ratings.
Aurangzeb said greater cooperation with the United States would help Pakistan attract foreign investment, expand trade and support long-term economic growth.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral economic ties and encouraging increased U.S. investment across key sectors of Pakistan’s economy. They also discussed advancing strategic projects aimed at promoting sustainable development and strengthening economic collaboration between the two countries.
The meeting forms part of Pakistan’s broader engagement with international partners to attract investment, enhance financial stability and support the country’s transition towards higher, export-driven economic growth.
